How to be UP, no matter what's going DOWN!

One of the greatest spiritual leaders of our time, the Dalai Lama, said, “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

What actions are you taking to ensure your happiness? I don’t just mean following through to get things in your life right – like applying for jobs, working towards better housing, or improving your relationships. I mean, what are you doing with your MIND to ensure that you’re UP, no matter what’s going DOWN? Because every action we take first comes from our thoughts.

We have to work at a happy mind. Sometimes this is the most productive thing you can do.

Haven’t you encountered people who, despite very bad situations on the outside, still kept a great attitude? Strength and happiness of mind can be our most reliable and powerful tool – something that we can use in any situation, at all times, and that will always help us.

So, how do we get closer to happiness? How do we work towards a better mind, which will help us produce better outcomes?

First, try slowing down enough to be aware of how you’re thinking. Even just taking 5 minutes to evaluate your thinking at the end of the day is a good way to start. When you recognize a negative mind, don’t focus on it or feel guilty, simply set it aside, knowing it will not serve you. Remember, if you can change something, you will, so there’s no reason to be upset. And if you can’t change something, it still won’t help to be upset. Try to cultivate positive feelings of acceptance, patience, gratitude, and humility, no matter what the situation. These are perfect antidotes to problems. Again, try to get more familiar with minds of acceptance, patience, gratitude, and humility. The more you are able to keep these qualities in your mind and heart, the further you’ll travel down a path of happiness!

In Each Tear, There's a Lesson!

Here's the lyrics to a beautiful song by Mary J. Blige titled "Each Tear"

There’s something that I want to say,
But I feel I don't know how.
Until I just can’t hold it one more day,
So I think I’ll let it out.

You’re on my mind more than I may show
You’re in my heart more than you may know
And the last thing that I want,
Is for you to fall apart.
Your future will be clearer,
I want you to remember:

In each tear
there’s a lesson,
Makes you wiser than before
Makes you stronger than you know
In each tear
Brings you closer to your dreams
No mistake, no heartbreak
Can take away what your meant to be...

We can’t change the things,
That we’ve done, that’s in the past.
But fighting won’t get us anywhere,
So if you want, Here’s my hand...

Every night there is one thing I do
I bow my head and pray for you
And the last thing that I want,
Is for you to fall apart
You're future will be clearer
I want you to remember:

In each tear
there’s a lesson,
Makes you wiser than before
Makes you stronger than you know
In each tear
Brings you closer to your dreams
No mistake, no heartbreak
Can take away what you're meant to be

You're much more than the struggle that you go through
You're not defined by your pain, so let it go...
You’re not a victim, you're more like a winner
And you’re not in defeat, you're more like a queen (or a king)

In each tear
there’s a lesson,
Makes you wiser than before
Makes you stronger than you know
In each tear
Brings you closer to your dreams
No mistake, no heartbreak
Can take away what your meant to be

In each tear
there’s a lesson,
Makes you wiser than before
Makes you stronger than you know
In each tear
Brings you closer to your dreams
No mistake, no heartbreak
Can take away what your meant to be

No no we can’t be held down
No no oh noo I I I can’t be held down
You you you can’t be held down
We we we can’t be held down

Love

It makes you so much stronger
It makes you so much wiser
In each tear
And You’re so close to your dreams
No mistake, no heartbreak can take away you’re meant to be

FREE TAX HELP!

CNM’s TAX HELP New Mexico program began 35 years ago at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) as a practical means of giving accounting students work experience in tax preparation while serving a community need.

The free tax return preparation service prepares and files tax returns electronically for those whose annual household income is less than $50,000 or who are age 65 or older. According to recent numbers, 70 percent of New Mexicans are eligible for the program, yet only 6.5 percent take advantage of it.

CNM’s TAX HELP New Mexico serves the state’s low-income and elderly residents by:

• Providing free tax return preparation

• Educating people about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) — a federal credit worth up to $5,657 for qualified low-to-moderate income workers — and helping them claim the money to which they are entitled

DON'T QUIT!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit,
Success is failure turned inside out -
the silver tint on the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you musn't quit!

-Edgar Guest
